Nike, Nike.com, Air Max Day — Release Article, SP24’
Writer
Brief: Write an article that celebrates the rich heritage of Air Max Day.
Process: Huge thank you to Ben Zhang for helping me with data and sourcing for this article. I dove into the archives at Nike on how Air Max Day started. I read a lot of articles on the heritage of Air Max Day and watched a ton of YouTube videos to try and bring the day to life.
A big personal goal I had for the article was for people to easily understand what Air Max Day is as soon as they clicked the article. I hated how when I read articles I’d have to scroll to the bottom just to find the info I wanted to read. That led to using the bold headlines in the article (ex: History of Air Max Day) above the body copy. Ben was able to setup a meeting with the product team who designed the shoe. That was great since they gave me a lot of more conversational talking points to include.
We also met with Kevin Coatman who was on the original team that started Air Max Day back in the day. This was really cool since Kevin gave us the step-by-step process on his team came up with the idea. When I first moved to Portland, Kev led the creative team I worked on. He would give me rides home from campus since I didn’t have a car and really showed me the ropes on how Nike functioned so it was great to collab with him again since he played such a big part for me when I moved here.
If you google ‘What is Air Max Day?” the first article that populates is this one, which was a big W as the previous articles were from third-party sites. Thank you Ben Zhang, Kevin Coatman, Ellie Friedman, the design team for Air Max DN and the amazing partners along the way that helped us launch this article. Ben fought hard for me to have a byline at the end which I’m grateful for.
